Anti-Aging Skincare: FAQs

What makes The A Method anti-aging products different from drugstore options?

The A Method was developed by Dr. Tina Alster, a board-certified dermatologist and laser pioneer, specifically to bring clinical-grade formulations to an at-home routine. The key difference is ingredient concentration and form.

For example, The A Method uses All-Trans Retinol, the active, bioavailable form of retinol, rather than the precursor compounds found in most over-the-counter products. Similarly, the C Antioxidant Gel 20% uses THD-ascorbate, a stabilized vitamin C derivative that penetrates more effectively than standard ascorbic acid.

All products are dermatologist-tested, fragrance-free, and designed to work as a complete system.

When should I start using anti-aging skincare?

The mid-to-late 20s is generally a good time to begin a preventative anti-aging skincare routine, since collagen production begins to slow during this period. Starting with a vitamin C serum and broad-spectrum sunscreen covers the most important bases early. As you move into your 30s and beyond, you can layer in targeted actives like All-Trans Retinol and peptides to address specific concerns like fine lines and loss of firmness.

That said, skin responds differently from person to person, so a dermatologist can help you find the right starting point for your skin.

Can I use retinol and vitamin C at the same time?

Yes, but it's generally recommended to use them at different times of day:

  • Apply your vitamin C serum in the morning, followed by SPF. This pairing provides strong antioxidant and UV protection throughout the day.
  • Use your retinol product in the evening, after cleansing.

This separation reduces the chance of irritation, particularly if you have sensitive skin. If you're introducing both for the first time, start with one, allow your skin to adjust over a few weeks, and then add the other. Layering them too quickly can cause unnecessary irritation that makes both less effective.

How long does it take to see results from anti-aging skincare?

It depends on the product and your skin:

  • Vitamin C serums can brighten the complexion and even out skin tone within 4-6 weeks of consistent use.
  • Retinol typically requires 6-12 weeks before you'll notice visible changes in fine lines and skin texture. This is because it works at the cellular level, and skin renewal takes time.
  • Peptide eye creams may show improvements in firmness and puffiness more quickly, sometimes within 2-4 weeks.

Consistency matters more than any single product, and results may vary from person to person.

Are these products safe for sensitive skin?

All products from The A Method are fragrance-free and formulated to minimize unnecessary irritants. If you have sensitive skin, the best approach is to introduce one new product at a time, patch-test before applying to your full face, and use actives like retinol a few times per week to start.

The Ultra-Hydration Serum and Collagen Boost Peptide Eye Cream are typically well-tolerated as starting points. For any specific skin concerns or medical conditions, it's always a good idea to consult with a dermatologist before beginning a new routine. Results may vary.
